As the weather gets warmer, chances are you are longing to get out of town for a bit. Summer vacations are something that most people look forward to. After being cooped up inside for all of winter and navigating roads that are icy and wet, you long for that warm summer sunshine and a nice long drive. If you are planning a road trip this summer, it is a good idea to take some time to get a car tune-up to make sure that your vehicle is ready for it.
Get a Car Tune-up Before Road Trip This Summer
A quick tune-up before your summer trip will make sure that your plans are not ruined by a broken down car on the side of the road somewhere that you do not want to be. Here are some car tune-up basic maintenance tasks that should be completed before you hit the road for your summer trip.
Check Your Fluids
When it comes to your car, the fluids that it uses are like its blood. There are six essential fluids that you should make sure that you check before you go anywhere. These fluids are the oil, radiator fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield fluid.
You should have your oil changed every 3000 miles, summer road trip or not. If you have recently had your oil changed, you should be good to go on your road trip.
The radiator fluid keeps the car cool. The last thing you want is for your car to overheat. Make sure that the radiator fluid has been flushed and filled before heading out.
Brake fluid is also important as you do not want to be part of a crash while you are out on your adventure. Flush brake fluid every 36,000 miles and make sure that you top it off if needed.
Power steering fluid makes your car easier to maneuver. Make sure to top off this important fluid so that you can easily turn the wheel as necessary.
Transmission fluid is very important as it helps the gears mesh together smoothly. Most cars do not need transmission fluid replaced. However, as this fluid ages, it increases the potential of having problems.
Windshield fluid is important as you want to keep your windows clean as you are driving down those long and windy roads. Fill this yourself easily by simply buying a jug and pouring it into the reservoir.
Tires
The tires of a vehicle are important for many reasons. Make sure you have your tires checked before you leave on your trip. If necessary, you may want to replace the tires or at the very least have them professionally rotated. Good tires help keep you safe on the road and improve your fuel efficiency.
A basic tuneup that includes checking all of your fluids and making sure that your tires are in good shape should have you well on your way to a fantastic summer road trip.
